Another Ten Chinese Characters That Look Like Their Meanings

So here we are again, back with another quiz (if you can call it that). Another ten Chinese characters, hot on the heels of our first set, demonstrating what we all should know already. Namely, that Chinese characters are très très cool.

Of those first ten, most of them were pretty common Baby’s First Picture Book kind of words. But testing whether you know your 山s from your 川s, or your 雨s from your 哭s, was never the intention here. All we are interested in is marveling at the genius of a language in which words are not spelt using a few dozen letters, but in which thousands of characters have evolved to represent, with varying degrees of complexity, the meanings of the objects they intend, because that, as we have said already, is very very awesome.

Of these next ten then, some are quite common, some maybe not so much. But they all, I hope, look like what they’re supposed to. Check ’em out!
