Dead City<\/em>the first spin-off to follow the ending zombies<\/em>, plays in moments like Negan’s redemption tour. And if you buy this, I have a bridge to Manhattan that I’d like to sell you.<\/p>\n

SUNDAY:<\/strong> The past is present as Masterpiece<\/em> mystery, a prequel to the iconic Inspector Morse<\/em>, returns for a three-episode final season. As young Sergeant Endeavor Morse, Shaun Evans (who leads the opening) rejoins his unit in the spring of 1972 after taking a mental break, plunging into a case in the world of classical music (his favorite). But another crime investigated by Morse and DCI Fred Thursday (Roger Allam) carries disturbing echoes of the unsolved Blenheim Vale child abuse scandal in season 2, which ended badly for both detectives. Expect the shockwaves to continue all season.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

SUNDAY:<\/strong> Always on the lookout for new British crime drama, PBS presents a showcase for Adrian Dunbar (Service line<\/em>), who reveals an unexpected gift for singing as the title character, newly retired Detective Inspector Alex Ridley. When not serving as a consultant for his prot\u00e9g\u00e9 Carol Farman (Bronagh Waugh<\/strong>) in difficult murder cases, he practices his jazz vocal talents in a local pub in his bleak neighborhood in northern England as an escape from the tragic loss of his wife and daughter. (Their deaths by arson loom over the first season.) The two-part puzzles unfold at a slow, steady pace, enhanced by Dunbar’s rocky and unusually lyrical persona.<\/p>\n

Patriarch Eli (John Goodman) has retired, leaving his three offspring\u2014crazy Jesse (McBride), neurotic Judy (Edi Patterson) and angry Kelvin (Adam Devine)\u2014in charge of the profitable megachurch, each trying in his own way to step out of Eli’s considerable shadow. This season’s new scene stealers include Shea Whigham (boardwalk empire<\/em>) as a rowdy race car driver, Stephen Dorff as a rival preacher, and Steve Zahn (The White Lotus<\/em>) as Eli’s brother-in-law, the apocalypse-preparing militia leader who calls TV pastors “quacks”. He’s not wrong.<\/p>\n

SUNDAY:<\/strong> For the many who are not in the flow Yellowstone<\/em> fans who complained when the spinoffs weren’t made available on “regular” TV, some good news. The acclaimed prequel, starring Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as trailblazers James and Margaret Dutton, and Isabel May as their willful daughter Elsa (also the show’s narrator), begins airing weekly on cable. The adventure begins when James arrives in Texas and the young family joins a wagon train led by Civil War veteran Shea Brennan (the great Sam Elliott, who won a Screen Actors Guild Award for the role).<\/p>\n

SUNDAY:<\/strong> As if being mauled by anti-hunting eco-activists isn’t humiliating enough, Wyoming game warden Joe (Michael Dorman) is now forced to play second fiddle to a “master stalker” and radio star (Patrick Garrow) who tries to take over the hunt for the killer. Complications follow. Elsewhere, fugitive Nate Romanowski (Mustafa Vorbe\u0219te) tempts fate by contacting Deputy Cricket (Justice Dosani<\/strong>), making her a target as well.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
