Their Vicious Games by Joelle Wellington review: Intense satire for teenagers

If you’re looking for a horror twist the Bacheloryou’ll want to check Their vicious games by Joelle Wellington. Here’s a look at what to expect.

Disclaimer: I received an advance copy of this novel from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

There are lots of stories involving a Bachelor style story. You usually find them in the romance section. After all, doesn’t every girl want to win an eligible man? Okay, not all girls; but I do a lot.

Their vicious games turns this kind of story into horror. Think of it more like a The hunger Games version a the Bachelor. Anything can happen and anyone can die.

What is Their Vicious Games by Joelle Wellington about?

The story begins as one similar to Pact. Adina Walker has lost her place at Yale and every other college, and she knows she needs The Finish to help her. This is a game held every year by the Remington family, the wealthiest family in the area.

The girls are competing for a chance to get ahead in life, and Adina wants to use it to level the playing field. Why should the rich always win?

What she doesn’t realize is that this Finish is different from most others. A Remington man turned 18 and is now looking for a wife. The girls are not just competing for their college futures, but their lives and the chance to become the next Mrs. Remington.

Is this really what Adina wants? He has to figure that out, as well as figure out who he can trust with that The hunger Games-style event.

Their review of Vicious Games

This story is quite easy to guess. There are plenty of predictable elements, from the cliché rich family member who wants nothing to do with this life (but takes advantage of it) to the girls who think they deserve everything because of how they were raised. It definitely made for a quick read as there was nothing too “out there” when it came to character and story development.

There have been strange twists and turns along the way. I loved the development of Saint as we tried to figure out if she can be trusted or not. I also loved the twists at the end as Adina figured out how to play everyone at their own games. It just wasn’t such a thrilling read when I could guess where each of the stories was going.

What I really wanted to know was if Adina would make it back to Yale after all. Will Finish be worth it? You’ll have to read that to find out.

The novel is described as a satire by Wellington, and I think if you take it that way, my review should be longer. However, I saw this after reading it and formed an opinion. It’s just not a book for me.
