Dark greetings are in order for Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), as it looks like everyone’s favorite familiar is undergoing some unusual transformations in the Season 5 trailer for What we do in the shadows.
Set to return Thursday, July 13 on FX, the original comedy from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi continues the story of vampire roommates Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch ). ). All the while, Nandor’s familiar Guillermo keeps up appearances as he tries to figure out what’s happening to himself after paying his friend (and vampire) Derek (Chris Sandiford) to bite him.
As the trailer teases, the proposal doesn’t quite go as planned as blood spurts from Guillermo’s throat in a messy exchange. “I thought the transformation would happen overnight, but it’s been sixteen days. I can’t turn into a bat…yet,” he says, though he seems to be testing it by yelling “bat” and running down the front steps of the vampire’s house.
According to the season diary and based on the trailer above, Nandor senses Guillermo slipping away as he begins to spend more time with Laszlo whose skills as a scientist are put to the test as he tries to solve the mystery behind the secret changes of the familiar. Meanwhile, Nadja suffers the effects of a previously undiagnosed hex and feels compelled to reconnect with (some) family in the Old Country, while Colin pursues political office.
Also returning to the mix is The Guide (Kristen Schaal), who invites herself into the group of friends, working to figure out her role among them. And the trailer also gives a look at some of the other Staten Island shenanigans they’re up to including more fun with neighbors Sean (Anthony Atamanuik) and Charmaine (Marissa Jaret Winokur).
Malls, a sexy proposal from Nadja to Colin and more serve to shock in this funny tease for the upcoming season, check it all above and don’t miss What we do in the shadows as it returns to television in July.
