Why ‘Three Wise Men and a Kid’ Won’t Get a Sequel, Plus Paul Campbell Looks Back on Signature Roles

why ‘three wise men and a kid’ won’t get a sequel

Paul Campbell has made romantic comedies, Christmas movies and mysteries for Hallmark, as well as served as a writer on a few films, so when StrippedPixel spoke with him for his latest, The Mystery Lane Caseswe had to make him look back at some of them.

We also had to ask if it was possible to get a follow up Three magicians and a baby, which he co-wrote with frequent collaborator Kimberley Sustad. (He starred in the 2022 Christmas movie alongside fellow fan favorites Andrew Walker and Tyler Hynes.)

“I’m not going to lie to you, not great,” Campbell admitted. “Hallmark has said many, many times over the years that they are not making sequels. The problem is that it’s very hard to tell a love story twice. And that movie is still a love story. It is a story about brothers rediscovering their love for each other. We talked to the network early on about a potential sequel and they just said, “We love the movie. We’d love to work with you guys again in another capacity, but it just won’t be up to it. So, unfortunately, unless we get a miracle, I’d say the chances are zero.”

But don’t rule out seeing Campbell and Hynes in a Hallmark movie together again, if the former works out. Now that stars have started making cameos in network movies, Hynes is Campbell’s choice to appear in one of his films. “I’ll take Tyler Hines any day of the week. I think it’s hysterical,” Campbell explained. “I love him as a person and I feel like if we brought him in as a cameo, he would come in and do something really weird. He would be on board to do something really weird.”
